Community Voice — 1,152 Google Reviews & Six Personas

What thirteen years of reviews say: winter runs 3.5× August, heat is almost never written down, courts are the loudest complaint. Six evidence-anchored personas with synthetic portraits, frictions and design implications for Lamma.

Shade Run — the mini game on the Proposal 2 model

Shade Run — play the park’s day (phone or laptop)

A small game on the Proposal 2 model: six appointments in the film’s order, from yoga at 07:00 to the cinema at 18:30, with one rule — the longer you stay in the sun, the slower you get. The shadows are the design shade model’s for the 2025-08-01 design day, so the game’s difficulty at 14:00 is the design’s own shade performance. Drag anywhere to run, or WASD on a keyboard. Your best day and a ghost of it stay on your device.

Proposal 2 Rev A 3D model

Design Proposal 2 — Rev A (interactive review)

Jiin’s revised design (2608012 Rev A) built from the AutoCAD vector PDF: per-CAD-layer show/hide and solo, design-day sun slider, and click-to-inspect showing each element’s layer, drawn colour, specified material and assumed height. Heights are placeholder values pending the height schedule sign-off. The same model is downloadable as IFC4 (BIM) from the viewer panel.

Proposal 1 3D model

Design Proposal 1 — 3D (sun & shade)

The concept sketch digitized onto the real parcel extended into the reclaimed parking (~19,700 m²): 554 m jogging loop with lap markers, splash+play under shade sails, community square with pond, treehouse adventure hub, palm allée, café in the loop’s west lobe, majlis canopy. Before (faithful as-built with red parasols) ↔ Proposal 1 under the real 2025-08-01 design-day sun with cast shadows, plus fence, trees, sails and sand↔water court toggles.

Lamma 1 min animation storyboard

Lamma — 1 min animation storyboard

The shot list for proposal 2's film, panel by panel with its narration: fifty-three years of satellite imagery morphing into the model, the cat and the survey robot carrying the analysis, the sketch becoming the plan, and a day in the park from morning to the outdoor cinema. Every frame is a real capture from our own model. 80 s master cut; the 60 s submission cut drops two findings.

Key figures

Proposal 1 before/after — noon shade 34→43%, kids zones 69→73%, honest 2-new-tree count Land surface temperature, summer median (Landsat 8/9) Shade hours, 2025-08-01 design day (buildings + canopy) UTCI on the worst recent day — sun vs shade Usable outdoor hours by month (UTCI categories) Canopy height, 1 m (Meta/WRI) Field validation — FLIR surface temperatures vs modelled shade Decade of change, 2015–2025 (satellite) Walkshed before / after proposed entrances SOLWEIG mean radiant temperature at peak Approach-street shade at 15:00 — only 5% of the walk network shaded Heat dose by gate — G4-west, G1-existing, G2-south serve 937 of 942 villas Walking flow corridors — street-tree priority edges Child 5-min isochrones — nursery × park overlap 50 years of development, Landsat 1972–2025 — the park is an early-2000s creation SOLWEIG intervention matrix — combined package: UTCI −1.3 °C mean, 45% of park improved Tree inventory ground-truthed with iNaturalist — Tier A patches hold 93% of in-park shade Park cool island vs 14 Dubai parks — Al Safa 2 ranks 9/14; density beats grass cover Shade-preference pedestrian ABM — add shade to desire-lines; detours can't beat 47–54 °C Tree ecosystem-service ledger (i-Tree) — 108 t CO₂ stored; Tier A holds 96% Parking → shaded park extension — +18.8% area, +28% in-park shade from 18 trees

Archive

Superseded work, kept because it is where the current film's method came from.

1-minute film prototype — Open

“Open” — proposal 1 film prototype (archive)

The full film as a ~60 s subtitled animatic (EN/AR): FLIR heat opener, +24% walkshed, the Proposal 1 reveal, Ramadan-night volleyball by the majlis, sand↔water court, the animated low-poly residents (kids riding the treehouse slides), the honest numbers, and the Tree-gochi. Every 3D frame is our own model under the real design-day sun.

Method notes

Remote-sensing baselines (Landsat LST, ERA5-Land → UTCI via thermofeel, Meta/WRI canopy) are documented per folder in the source repository, alongside the vector shadow model, SOLWEIG runs, network walkshed analysis and FLIR field validation. Methods mirror the earlier Al Karama study so results are directly comparable. AI was used throughout as a design-process tool; the analysis scripts double as evidence for the challenge's AI Methodology Report.
